May Already!

It is hard to believe we are already into May! It won't be long until our little first graders are moving on to second grade! BUT we still have a little over a month together (okay that was supposed to be reassuring, but that doesn't sound like long!). We are packing in lots of fun and learning every day. This week, we continued our work on personal narrative writing and making predictions. We also got to see our caterpillars turn into butterflies and see our plants continue to grow. This afternoon, we released our butterflies into their natural habitat! Each student is continuing to work through their self paced math units, mastering content in their own time! We also celebrated May Day by making surprise baskets for adults in the building.

Please see below for our upcoming events and reminders.

May 20: Last WEEK of checkout.

May 24: Last DAY of checkout.

May 31: ALL books due from students.

Overdue book notes were sent home yesterday. Please look for books that are missing and return them to the library ASAP!

Sight Words

We have now learned all of the first grade sight words. Students are doing a pretty good job of reading the words, but we could use some extra practice with spelling them. The sight word lists from now on will be a review of some of the trickier first grade words. Please practice reading and writing these sight words each night with your child. Our goal is for students to be able to read the words quickly without having to sound them out and to spell them accurately in their writing. Students can also practice these sight words through fun games and activities at the following website: https://www.spellingcity.com/1stgrade1516/

If you would like a list of what specific words your child should be working on, please email me.
