First Grade Directory

Orange Folder

Students will have an Orange Folder and Agenda they will bring home daily. Inside will be important papers and classwork from your student. This folder needs to come to school each day in your child’s backpack as it will serve as a means of communication between school and home. I will be sure to contact you if your child is continuously missing their folder.

Library Checkout

Your child will have many opportunities to visit the school library – we will have one scheduled class each week on Fridays. Your child will have the opportunity to visit the library each day during their independent reading rotations. Each child can have two books checked out from the library at a time and may keep them up to two weeks before returning them to the library.

Volunteering

Parent volunteers are very much appreciated at Crest! There are many opportunities with which you can help, including working with students in our classroom, preparing materials for instruction, and supporting PTO for school-wide events. The district requires all volunteers to be formally registered in order to volunteer in the classroom (including chaperoning field trips). The Volunteer Registration Form is available on the district’s website at www.prairiepride.org, click on “Community” and then on “Volunteer.” This will take you to the Volunteer Registration Form.  All registrations must be completed at least 24 hours before volunteering. Volunteers must be “re-registered” each year to keep the database up to date. When coming to volunteer at school, please stop in the office to sign in and get a volunteer sticker.

Transportation Changes

If you plan to change transportation from your child’s normal routine you need to call/email the office, email me, or send a written note. To avoid miscommunications, DO NOT rely solely on your child to tell me. If no phone call or written note/email was received, your child will be sent home according to his/her usual method of transportation.

Birthdays

Birthdays are special and your child is welcome to bring special treats into school to celebrate. When sending birthday treats to school please remember treats needs to be prepackaged/commercially prepared food. In an effort to encourage healthy eating I ask that you send a healthy treat. Good examples of healthy treats are; fruit snacks, granola bars, animal crackers, and pudding cups. Please be sure to send any plates, napkins, or utensils we may need to cut, serve, and enjoy the treats. We will celebrate your child’s birthday on or as near to their birthday as possible. Summer birthdays are celebrated towards the end of the year unless arranged beforehand. We do have allergies in our classroom so please no treats that contain peanuts.

Book Orders

Your child will be bringing home a form to order books about every month.  If you want to order, simply follow the instructions attached to the catalog to order online or fill out the form and send a check made out to SCHOLASTIC in an envelope. These orders are provided as a convenient way for parents to buy quality books for their child at a low price.  As an added bonus, for every dollar that is spent on books, our class earns bonus points, which are used to purchase books for the classroom to use.  This is a win, win situation because you get quality literature at a low price, and you are helping to provide quality literature for the classroom.  Of course, you are never under any obligation to order.  If you wish to order books as a gift for your child, please indicate it by writing “gift” on the envelope that you return to school.  I will then make arrangements with you to pick the books up at school or will wrap them up and send them home.
