What is Living and Growing in Our Room?!

We had an eventful week in our classroom this week. First, Mrs. Wilaby got unexpectedly sick on Monday and had to go home early. The kids were so great at being flexible and showing expectations for our guest teachers over those three days I was gone! I am so proud of them for their hard work! We celebrated earlier this week with extra recess and a coloring party! We also have lots of growing and excitement in our classroom with our new plants and animals unit. We each planted our own "lawns" and wheat seeds. In addition, we have some temporary class pets that we get to watch grow from caterpillars into butterflies!

Among all that excitement, we are still doing great with retelling fiction stories, finishing up place value and moving into time, and writing our own personal narrative stories. The rest of the school year is going to be even more jam packed with learning and fun. Even though all those snow days will be keeping us here a little longer than planned, I have a feeling the rest of the year is really going to fly by!

Indian Creek Nature Center Field Trip

On Thursday, Apri 25th, first grade is going on a field trip to the Indian Creek Nature Center. Students will need to bring a sack lunch. We will also need volunteers for this field trip. Additional information about the field trip and the form for volunteering was sent home on Monday. If you are interested in volunteering, please return the form or email me by Monday, April 15th. We will not accept additional volunteers after April 15th. Thank you!

PE Survey

Mr. Rickels is looking for feedback about PE this year. Please take a moment to fill out the following survey to help him improve physical education at Crest.

Sight Words

We have now learned all of the first grade sight words. Students are doing a pretty good job of reading the words, but we could use some extra practice with spelling them. The sight word lists from now on will be a review of some of the trickier first grade words. Please practice reading and writing these sight words each night with your child. Our goal is for students to be able to read the words quickly without having to sound them out and to spell them accurately in their writing.
