Well, we finally had five days of school in a row and it feels so good (we will ignore the two hour delay on Monday)! We worked hard this week on getting back into the routine and building our stamina back up for being in school for a full week. Please work with your first grader on listening to directions the first time they are given. With our switch to our new math, some students are finding the independence challenging as it puts a little more responsibility on them for their own learning, rather than relying heavily on the teacher to keep them on track. We are working hard to be self motivated and try problem solving before asking for help.
This week we continued to learn about citizenship in social studies. Our first graders are so excited to look for ways to help others and be good citizens. In the coming weeks, we will be brainstorming ideas of ways to be good citizens and breaking into groups to
We also had Education Night/Fun Fair on Thursday. Thanks to everyone who donated to our class basket and came to the event. It was a very fun Harry Potter themed evening! Keep reading for upcoming events and reminders!

Sight Words
We will do week 20 sight words again next week. Please practice reading and writing these sight words each night with your child. Our goal is for students to be able to read the words quickly without having to sound them out and to spell them accurately in their writing. Students can also practice these sight words through fun games and activities at the following website: https://www.spellingcity.com/1stgrade1516/
Be sure to click on the “Sight Words - Week 20” list.
