Thank you all for your patience as I have been not so great about sending the blog out or letting you know what we are doing in our classroom lately. Between all the snow days and my daughter being sick and in the hospital, I've been a little out of sorts. We are back on track now, though and finished the week out strong!

We switched up our math format again and moved toward self-paced blended learning. Students each have a choice board for the unit which they progress through at their own pace. Students view instructional videos each day and complete a task to show mastery. I am also pulling small groups for lessons as well while kids are working. When the kids feel confident in that specific skill, they can do a challenge to "level up" and go to the next level! The kids seem to be liking it. It puts a bit more responsibility on the students to make sure they are focused and learning, but it gives them more choice and makes them excited for math! Ask your first grader how they like our new format!

We ended the week with an assembly to celebrate hard work in academics. A few friends from our class were able to participate in some fun games while the rest of us cheered them on. We also got a visit from THE Steve Doser to take pictures of our hard work in class to share with the community. He even gave us the inside scoop that we will NOT have school tomorrow ;) I didn't have the heart to tell the kids that were excited about that it's Saturday tomorrow, so we'll let them have this win!

We'll have a bouncy house, face painting, a silent auction for the baskets put together by each class, and pizza & pop for sale. Join us for this "two-for-one" night of Education Night and Fun Fair activities! Free will donations will be taken in lieu of admission that is taken at Fun Fair.

(We will still need some volunteers. Please consider helping us out for a shift! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0f4da8af2da5f58-education)

Influenza at Crest

We are starting to see an influx of illness at this time and 8 classrooms affected by the influenza virus. Below is a note from our Crest nurse. If you have further questions, please contact her.

Sight Words

We will do week 19 sight words again next week. Please practice reading and writing these sight words each night with your child. Our goal is for students to be able to read the words quickly without having to sound them out and to spell them accurately in their writing. Students can also practice these sight words through fun games and activities at the following website: https://www.spellingcity.com/1stgrade1516/

Be sure to click on the “Sight Words - Week 17” list.
