Crazy Weather Continues

Well, we can't escape the crazy Iowa winter weather just yet, but Puxatony Phil predicted spring will come soon, so let's hope he's right! Despite the weather, we are trucking along with our learning. We continued our experiments with light, found the main idea and details in nonfiction books, and wrapped up our addition to 20 unit in math. We also got to see Ms. Byrkeland on Tuesday when Mrs. Wilaby was pulling kids to complete the aReading and FAST screeners! Next week is a short week due to a professional development day on Monday, but will be full of fun with Valentine's day and our 100(ish) day of school celebration. 100th Day of School

We will now be celebrating our 100th day of school on Friday, February 15th. If we have more snow days, we're just keeping it as the 15th so we can finally celebrate!

We could still use some donations for our 100th day snack. Please sign up here to donate items if you are able! Students are also encouraged to dress up for the 100th day!

Valentine's Day Party

On Thursday, February 14th we will be having our Valentine's Day Party. Please see our sign up here to donate items for our party or to lead an activity/craft. We are still in need of quite a few items. Thank you to those families that have already signed up! We have 21 students in our class. Your child may bring in Valentine's cards on the day of the party or anytime before the party. Students do not need to make a box for their Valentines. We will be making bags for our Valentine's at school as a part of our celebrations throughout the day. Below is a list of all our classmate's names.

Fun Fair Basket

Our classroom needs your help to accomplish a big challenge …to have the BEST silent auction basket for the Fun Fair that will be taking place at Prairie Crest on Saturday, February 23rd from 11:00-2:00.

Our classroom theme for this year’s basket is “Bath Time Fun.” We are looking for donations for our basket centered around this theme. Please check out our sign up to donate items. Please send in your donation by Tuesday, February 19th. Thank you in advance for your help and support!

Education Night

Re-mark your calendars for this year's Prairie Crest Education Night! Students will board the Hogwarts Express for a magical Harry Potter themed night of learning and fun! Come join us Thursday, March 7th from 5:30-7pm.

Sight Words

Students will be learning the following first grade sight words next week. Please practice reading and writing these sight words each night with your child. Our goal is for students to be able to read the words quickly without having to sound them out and to spell them accurately in their writing. Students can also practice these sight words through fun games and activities at the following website: https://www.spellingcity.com/1stgrade1516/
