Wow! What another great week we had in our classroom! We learned about pitch and volume and how the vibrations and sound waves change to make a different pitch or volume level. We continued our work on place value in math, and learned some fun games to help us practice adding and decomposing numbers within 100. We ended the week with Education Night on Thursday evening, which was a huge success, and had an assembly on Friday afternoon to celebrate our hard work and perseverance over the past month. Check out our "Need to Knows" for upcoming events and reminders. As always, check our Facebook for daily updates, and please contact me with any questions!

100th Day of School
We will be celebrating our 100th day of school on Friday, February 2nd. (The actual 100thday is February 1st , but we will be celebrating on Friday). We will be celebrating throughout the day with various activities. I encourage students to dress up for the 100th day of school if they would like! Here is a reminder of our 100th day snack sign up. Thank you to those of you that signed up to bring something!
Fun Fair Basket
Plans are in the works for our annual Prairie Crest Fun Fair. Our classroom needs your help to accomplish a big challenge …to have the BEST silent auction basket for the Fun Fair which will be taking place at Prairie Crest on Saturday, February 10th from 11:00-2:00.
WHAT IS THE FUN FAIR? The name says it all, FUN! Students and their family and friends get to enjoy games, prizes, scavenger hunts, and classroom competition. The event is also a major fundraising event for Crest PTO by raising money through raffles and auctions. The money that is raised from this goes to financially support your child’s field trips, classroom supplies, building security and equipment, playground equipment, and to school events such as the Fun Fair.
Our classroom theme for this year’s basket is “Snow Day”. We are looking for donations for our basket centered around this theme. Check out our sign up here. Please send donations to school by February 2nd so we can get the basket put together for the Fun Fair. Thank you in advance for your help and support!
Sight Words
Students will be learning the following first grade sight words. Please practice reading and writing these sight words each night with your child. Our goal is for students to be able to read the words quickly without trying to sound them out. Students can also practice these sight words through fun
games and activities at the following website: https://www.spellingcity.com/1stgrade1516/
