The Grinch Can't Stop Our Christmas Cheer!

Our week really started off with a bang! On Monday when we arrived, all of our flexible seating was either blocked off in our RR, or missing from the room. In it's place was a note from the Grinch, and six different puzzles and locks we had to solve. The Grinch's challenge helped us work on problem solving, map skills, story problems, and text features (sneaky Grinch) all while having fun! Each puzzle gave us a clue to figure out how to get our flexible seating back! In the end, we figured out we had to go to the office and sing "Jingle Bells". It was a fun and exciting start to the week.
The rest of the week was filled with practicing subtraction within 20, learning about holidays around the world, and finishing our service projects we've been working on! Students in my group made posters for adoptable animals at Last Hope Animal Rescue. Of course, we also had some other fun holiday themed activities sprinkled throughout the week! We ended the week with our winter party and movie day. Thank you to those of you that donated items and helped with the party!
I have truly enjoyed these first few months with your kiddos! Thank you all so much for sharing your children with me this year! I cannot wait to see how much our kids grow in 2018, the second half of first grade is really when we amp it up and take off in our learning!
I'm SO excited :)
As always, please check out our Facebook page for daily updates on what's happening in our classroom, and please contact me with any questions! Don't forget to scroll to the bottom for pictures from the week! Have a happy holiday...see you all in 2018!

Students will be learning the following first grade sight words after winter break. Please practice reading and writing these sight words each night with your child. Our goal is for students to be able to read the words quickly without trying to sound them out. Students can also practice these sight words through fun games and activities at the following website:
