This week in our classroom, we began planning and conducting our service projects for the end of our social studies unit. Your child is either participating in a service project to help animals, people who are ill, or the environment. We also continued to work on our expository writing skills, and learned how to publish our writing into books. Be on the lookout for some on Seesaw! In math, we began our unit on subtraction within 20. We have learned a few different strategies so far, and will continue to learn more after break to give students a variety of options to help them solve math problems. We've also been trying a few things here and there to move more toward personalized learning in the classroom. I am excited for some upcoming projects, and changes in our classroom in January that will help your first grader gain more choice in how they are learning, and how they are showing what they know! My goal for our first graders is so become more independent in what they do, and get to know themselves better as learners so they can advocate for themselves and make wise choices as they work. Keep checking back for more updates on our journey toward personalized learning! We ended our week with a beach day celebration for being respectful, responsible, and safe as a building! Check out pictures at the bottom of the post to see all of our fun throughout he day!

As always, check our Facebook page for daily updates and please email me with any questions you may have!

Think B4U Speak Week

The College Community School District focuses on anti-bullying efforts and ways to make our school community safer. This year, during the week of January 15th, the CCSD is celebrating our 8th annual district-wide “Think B4 U Speak Week”. This special week is dedicated to recognizing the importance of taking a collective stand against bullying, and working together to continue to establish a community that is both a safe and exciting place to be a part of. We will celebrate the conclusion of the week with a district-wide “Kindness Day” on Friday, January 19th. If you would like to order the shirt that has been designed for Think B4 U Speak Week, please fill out the form below and return to school. These are the shirts we will be wearing for “Kindness Day” on Friday, Jan. 19th.
