Halloween Week

I can't believe it is November already! Where did October go?! We had lots of fun this week celebrating Halloween with some fun activities, a parade, and a party. We also had our first guest teacher in the afternoon on Monday and absolutely ROCKED having a guest teacher in the room. Of course we celebrated with a PJ day on Thursday, which was so much fun! Believe it or not, with all of those special events going on this week, we still managed to squeeze a ton of learning in there as well! We continued learning about being expository (nonfiction) writers and practiced planning and writing big idea sentences. We practiced finding nonfiction text features within books on our own during read aloud, and continued to learn about being good citizens in our new social studies unit. We also completed the district assessment on counting, recognizing, and writing numbers 0-120 and did a fabulous job! We are now working on solving a variety of story problem types in math as well as adding and subtracting within 20. That is just the tip of the ice burg of what we are learning in our classroom! I am so excited to share all of the learning we have been doing in first grade so far at conferences coming up next week! If you haven't signed up already, the window closes tonight!

Keep reading for our first grade "Need to Knows". As always, check out our Facebook page for daily updates on what we are doing in our classroom!
