Where Has the Time Gone?!

Holy moly, these last few weeks of school are going FAST! I can't believe how few days I have left with your kids, where did the year go?! We have been keeping busy with learning in our classroom, some of the highlights this week included presenting our "animal discoveries" in science, going to the Kernel's Reading Assembly to learn about there summer reading program, and learning to tell time! Read below for some important end of the year events and information about some events and programs happening this summer!

Jump Into Summer

Need ideas to keep your student engaged in learning activities over

the summer? Join us for the Jump into Summer event at Prairie Crest

Elementary on Thursday, May 25th anytime between 5:00-6:30. Engage in

hands-on activities such as math games, a read and feed, computer apps, sports writing journals, arts and crafts and science fun. Wear your sports gear or team apparel and get your picture taken in the photo booth. Every student who attends will receive a take-home book for summer reading. We hope to see you there!

First Grade RAGBRAI Simulation – Friday, May 26 th (9:15-11:20)

Please email me by May 19th if you are interested in helping out with

this fun event. You can also help by donating fruit snacks, granola bars

or bottled water (20 each). Thanks for your help!

Summer Tutors

If you are interested in hiring a tutor for the summer to keep your almost SECOND grader on track, please let me know. Several teachers in the building are available for tutoring this summer, or I can refer you to an outside source.

FREE BOOK ALERT!

Does your child want a free book? If your child reads 8 books this summer and completes the attached reading journal, they can select a free book from a list at Barnes and Noble. Please let me know if you are interested and need a copy of the journal, or print one by following this link.

Sight Words

We will not have a sight word lists for the remainder of the year. Feel free to

keep using Spelling City over the summer as a fun way to practice sight words.
